Encounter and Exchange Through Photography

As one of the main sponsors of BildBotschaft Hamburg, siebold/hamburg supports a non-profit project that uses photography as a medium for dialogue, exchange, and social cohesion.

Democracy thrives on community, dialogue, curiosity, and respect. BildBotschaft Hamburg creates a physical space that actively fosters these values—through photography, personal encounters, and open exchange between diverse social groups.

We increasingly move within information and filter bubbles. Social media in particular intensifies this effect: perspectives narrow, respectful dialogue with people holding different views becomes rarer, and shared visions of the future fade away. Yet democracy depends on the very opposite—open, personal exchange.

Photography can enable this dialogue. Images speak directly, invite engagement, open up new perspectives, and create points of connection for conversation. They make differences visible without judging them—thereby encouraging encounters and mutual understanding.

With BildBotschaft Hamburg, an attractive and welcoming space has been created that brings together people from very different backgrounds. As a physical venue for exhibitions, participatory journalism, and educational work, BildBotschaft invites visitors to explore social issues together, discuss them openly, and think them further.

In cooperation with Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft and the real estate company Tishman Speyer, BildBotschaft Hamburg was hosted in the Satellite from early November until Christmas—Hamburg’s urban showcase for the creative industries. Located in a central position at the entrance to the main shopping street and directly adjacent to the central station, this space combined visibility, openness, and accessibility, enabling constructive social dialogue in the heart of the city.
